Costs in Robotic Colorectal Surgery

The use of robotic colorectal (CR) surgery has been increasing steadily, especially for proctectomy. Although controversy over improved results compared to other conventional approaches still exists, one the most commonly reported drawbacks robotics is its high procedure-related cost. However, economic analysis CR limited by paucity and heterogeneity available data poor inadequate methodological quality previous studies. Therefore, a more comprehensive cost-effectiveness should take into account different factors including those strictly related operating room costs clinical outcomes. On this basis, according latest evidence from literature, although colectomy seems not be cost-effective with laparoscopic colectomy, proctectomy may prove if modest differences in or postoperative length stay can achieved. aim chapter analyze current state considering some objective preliminary aspects providing future perspectives.
